FUCKING THIS EXACTLY. With the exception of Supernatural I discovered all my fandoms through, lol, initial piracy. AND THEN I FUCKING BOUGHT THE DVDS. SO YEAH. I HAVE A LOCKBOX STUFFED WITH DVDS. THERE ARE LITERALLY HUNDREDS.

found Holmes fandom through a pirated Sherlock Holmes movie which was followed by buying Sherlock season 1, the first volume of the Sherlock Holmes collection, and then the Sherlock Holmes collection app. I swear to you I have never spent so much money on a fandom.

I borrowed out Supernatural season one from the library. Also with Bones. I used to watch House on TV when I was little. I borrowed out Buffy and Angel books from the library. I watched Sherlock online before I then went out and bought it. I now have DVD’s of all of those fandoms EVERYWHERE. I’ve got merch pouring from my ears!

THIS.THIS.THIS. I found so many of my favorite songs and tv shows through fanvids on YouTube, and then guess what? I WENT OUT AND BROUGHT THE DVD’S/DOWNLOADED THE SONGS FROM ITUNES! If I like something, I’m going to buy it.  But I have to be introduced to it first in order for me to know if i like it or not.
